Hymns for a Kid's Heart is an absolutely wonderful gift for children anytime.

In recent years too many children have been deprived of hymns that would teach them the truths of God’s Word. The hymns that give them a solid foundation to build their faith and lives on have been lost to an entire generation.

It’s so sad that they’ve been fed a diet of simplistic texts and tunes merely because someone along the way decided that children's worship should be dumbed down. A focus on an emotional experience is such a disservice to them, an impediment to the tremendous potential for growth that their little hearts and minds contain!

The title of a little treasure that I’ve discovered conceals the jewels it contains. When I first saw this hardcover book and cd set at my local Crossway Christian Book Store I hesitated because of the word “kids” on the cover. That would have been a big mistake on my part.

I went ahead and picked it up because of the word “hymns” in the title, wondering if this one could actually have real hymns in it. How glad I am for the second look that I took at Hymns For A Kid’s Heart, Volume One. It's wonderful!

Hymns For A Kid’s Heart is a silver chest of gold coins for children. From the moment their little hands touch a hymn book I want my grandchildren to sense the worthiness of God’s Word in it. The quality feel of this book is appropriate for the hymns of the faith that it contains.

I was also pleased with the stories because without a knowledge of history our children have no infrastructure to establish their lives on--we do not want to leave them to whatever wild wind might blow their way.

The beautiful artwork contained in this set of children's hymn books is so important to the development of a child’s thinking, especially in a day and time when ugly is valued and praised. This devotional book set is designed to reach out to the needs of a child through beauty.

The combination of these finely printed hymn texts to teach and inspire children, the Scripture passages to help them understand what the hymns are about, the practice music combined with the winsome art, and the cd of reverent but delightful recordings are all framed to meet children at the core of their need to know more about their Creator.

What a valuable help this set is to parents who want to raise the bar on their children’s thinking to heights beyond the trite and mundane of much that passes for today’s Christianity! Hymns for a Kid's Heart, Volume 1, is the kind of work that we as parents and grandparents can use to help our little ones reach for a life of glory and power from on high.

I purchased my first in this series from my local bookstore. There are several reasons I was glad it was available to me there, but the series is also available on the web, of course. I am looking forward to a closer look at the other volumes that are available, and hoping that even more will be produced.

The team of Bobbie Wolgemuth, Joni Eareckson Tada, and Sergio Martinez have woven a lovely tapestry together in Hymns for a Kid's Heart and I’m putting their work at the top of my Christmas list. It’s a gift I’ll be able to enjoy with even my youngest grandchildren - how nice is that?!
