It's Amazing That The New Year Is Here!
Happy New Year--it's 2010 in the Southeast! I just heard firecrackers in the distance and looked at the clock. The calendar for the last year in this decade turns now. It's an amazing moment--next year begins!
It doesn't matter what might be happening in any given place in the world. It doesn't matter what any individual's circumstances might be. Time waits for no one.
New Year's Eve Events
My dear husband gave up and zonked out before the midnight hour. We've spent the day at the hospital with my father and tonight he was admitted via the ER.
He is settled in now and will soon be talking about how he spent the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010 hospitalized the same way Rush was.
Every year has its joys and sorrows. It has been written that there is nothing new under the sun. This is a December that I remember an old country song, Merle Haggard I think, "If We Make It Through December We'll Be Fine."
Of course, the irony is that none of us knows what a day will bring.
Thankful For Beginning The New Year With Confidence In God's Word!
And that is why I am writing a little note now as I wind down from this day--from this month--from this year--from this calendar. I just must praise God that I belong to Him in Jesus and that His wonderful character qualities are wrapped up in His unchanging omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence.
What a comfort and strength His truths are in all seasons of life!
I thank Him for giving me faith and for all that belief of what He says means for His people. I praise Him for prayer according to His Word and that none of HIs promises can fail.
I am so grateful for His power that helps me trust and obey Him, even when it's hard, such as when He says to pray believing, but to be willing to wait on His perfect time and way for answers.
As I think of how this life is a vapor and eternity is a long time, I thank Him for His help on this pilgrim journey and for His peace that is incomprehensible to our human way of thinking. I thank Him with a grateful heart that He has not left me to myself, but has been so gracious and kind to show me Himself through His Word and the Lord Jesus.
The Christ is our need, our hope, our help for today and for eternity. There is no other salvation.
If you do not know Jesus I urge you to Him. Come to God His way, through His Son. Believe His Word and follow Him. Seek Him, ask Him for faith, endeavor to know Him, and He will in no wise cast you out.

Here we are looking at 2011 now, and after a year of personal difficulties I was just today asking God to help me focus on how much I really do have to be thankful for.
I will not be in the ER with my father this New Year's Eve, but the year ahead will be filled with new challenges. How grateful I am to be able to face them with the confidence that our Lord's faithfulness to His Word does not change! Taking what He says by faith and going forward adds experience with His faithfulness to our life's journey. By faith we go one step at a time and we find His Word true.
