A T-Shirt Bib Makes a Great Drool Cloth and is a Perfect Canvas for Painting a Valentine’s Design

Including a bib in my Paint a Valentine’s Day T-Shirt was an idea that hit me when I found these t-shirt bibs for sale at Hobby Lobby.

The first three hubs in this series are about panting children’s t-shirts, but planning a design for this bib was another way to have some creative fun.

Getting these painted t-shirt projects in the mail early has enabled me to produce this series of hubs in time for you to think through a painted t-shirt project in time for the upcoming holiday.

Painted bibs opens up an entirely new avenue of fun projects to create and I hope to develop some intricate designs one day. In the meantime, maybe this one will soak up a lot of wet stuff.

It is now on its way to a baby girl who is on her way to being a technical whiz--not much choice in a modern household these days, is there?

Of course, since she’s my granddaughter she will do well in everything she does. All she’ll have to do is ask and I will tell her how well she is doing. :)

How to Paint a Valentine’s Day Bib

❤ FabricMate’s dye markers made this a super easy project. One of the best features of this product is that these dyes do not have to be heat set.

After you decide what design to use, wash and dry the bib. Do not use any kind of fabric softener and make sure the bib is completely dry. This bib’s t-shirt fabric is thick and doubled (it has two snap sizes) and it is nicely bound.

Lay the bib out on paper or cardboard to protect the surface of the table you will work at. I was able to use the dye pens lightly in layers and the dye did not bleed through to the back layer, but I would not count on that being the case every time.

Decide whether to draw your design on the bib or to work freehand. Begin drawing or painting your design in the center and work outward so your design is not lopsided.

I used a stiff junk mail envelope for my straight edge as I lettered the “iDrool love/heart.com” slogan. The curl-i-cues were also fun to do freehand, layering the colors and highlighting them with black. I enjoyed the result of the bright pink beside the red.

This baby bib is the fourth and last in my little series. Thanks for taking a look at it! You might like to check out the previous Paint-A-Valentine’s-Day T-Shirt projects linked in this hub before beginning your project.

❤ A Few Tips for this Valentine’s Day Project:

• Ideas can come from a wide range of sources, but remember, create an original design--don’t copy another artist’s work.

• Using a black marker to slightly outline small sections of your design can really make it pop. Black does the job like no other color.

• Paints and/or dyes should dry before adding colors unless you want unexpected blends of color.

• Designs can be done free hand, pre-drawn by hand, and even ironed on using transfer paper.

• Practice using the dye markers on an old t-shirt before beginning the project.

• Trust your creative instincts and have fun!

• Remember that this project isn’t just for Valentine’s Day--any holiday will do!

• Take pictures and make your own "How To" hub, then let me know so I can link it to one of my Valentine’s Day projects in this little series.
